CHARLESTON, S.C. — The College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) committee recognized Mike White for his stellar passing performance in WKU’s 59-24 victory over Old Dominion, naming the Hilltopper quarterback one of four honorable mention Performers of the Week. White threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns, compared to only four incompletions, on Saturday against the Monarchs.
This marks the second time White has been honored by the CFPA this season, as he was tabbed Performer of the Week following his 517-yard debut in WKU’s 46-14 win versus Rice on the season’s opening night.
White led WKU to a 52-14 lead at the half, completing 21-of-23 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns with a 265.9 passer rating in the opening 30 minutes alone. He finished the game with a rating of 221.7, but remains one of three starting quarterbacks in the nation with two or more games of 250-plus passer rating this season (versus Rice and HBU).
With his 28-for-32 performance, White became only the sixth quarterback this season to have as many touchdowns as incompletions (minimum four scores). The 378 passing yards was his third-highest total of the year, putting himself in elite company as one of seven in the country to have four or more games of 340-plus yards.
Overall, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native is sixth in the country in yards (2,476) fourth in yards per attempt (9.6) and sixth in completion percentage (69.5). In the first halves of games, White is second in the nation with 1,666 yards and boasts a 70.8 completion percentage with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 12:2.
The goal of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferment in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings to the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Now in its seventh season of player and team performance recognition, the CFPA eliminates the politics and biases that vitiate balloting-based awards.
White will lead WKU (5-3, 3-1) over to his neck of the woods to face Florida Atlantic (1-6, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon in Boca Raton, Florida. The Hilltoppers and Owls will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT, with the game being broadcast on American Sports Network (ASN).
