NASHVILLE, Tenn. – WKU Tennis recorded its second win on the weekend and the season
after defeating University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7-0 on Saturday evening. This
match marks the first time the Lady Toppers swept an opponent 7-0 since sweeping
Butler on March 18, 2017.
“It was a great weekend to get back-to-back wins,” said head coach Greg Davis on the
Beginning with doubles action, sophomore Laura Bernardos and junior Lisa Friess
assumed their position as WKU’s leading doubles pair. They defeated a pair of Golden
Lady Topper freshmen tandem Zeniece Charles-Hall and Judit Gonzalez Agud played at
the No. 2 doubles spot and won 6-0. UAPB did not fill the third doubles spot and WKU
won by default.
In the singles competition, the Lady Toppers finished nearly perfect. In the No. 1
spot, sophomore Millie Khoury defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Moving down the lineup, Bernardos, Friess, Lucia Diaz Saez and Gonzalez Agud each
defeated their opponents in 6-0, 6-0 fashion. Charles-Hall won the sixth singles
spot by default.
Up next, WKU (2-10, 0-2 Conference USA) will take on Wright State and Dayton next
weekend. “We have two difficult matches next week on the road,” said Davis. “Both
teams play really well at home so we will certainly have our hands full.”
