BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Entering the first round of the Conference USA Championship,
WKU Tennis will face Florida Atlantic on Thursday at 3 p.m. CT at the Waranch Tennis
Complex in Denton, Texas.
WKU comes into the battle as a six-seed, which is the highest seed WKU has earned
since 1999 while in the Sun Belt Conference. The Lady Toppers have won five out of
their last six matches and hold an 11-5 overall record.
Florida Atlantic (11-10, 1-1 C-USA) is coming off a loss last Saturday to rival FIU,
7-0. The 11th-seed in the tournament is led by Lyndsey Boos who boasts a 12-7
singles record, including an 8-2 record at the No. 2 spot.
The Owls own the all-time series against the Lady Toppers, 2-1, but under head coach
Jonatan Berhane, WKU is 1-0 against FAU. On March 8, 2015, the Red and White won a
close one, 4-2, including singles wins by Andreanna Christopoulou and Elpida
Malamou leads the team with 13 singles wins and Monica Malinen is second on the
squad in wins racking up 10 victories. Junior Violetta Shatalova has a winning
streak of nine matches dating back to Feb. 4.
