LEXINGTON, Ky. – With another weekend tournament championship under their belts, the Lady Toppers have returned to the AVCA Top 25 as of Monday, Sept. 19. WKU earned the final spot in the rankings following a trio of weekend victories.
On Friday, the Red and White, who were receiving votes at the time, took down another squad receiving votes in Pittsburgh. It took five sets, but the Lady Toppers handed Pitt a loss on its home court to open play at the Panther Challenge.
Saturday saw the Lady Topper squad sweep a pair of opponents in Robert Morris and Lehigh. Robert Morris fell first in straight sets of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-16. The Colonials were a 2015 NCAA Tournament team. In the second match of the day for WKU, the Lady Toppers took care of business against Lehigh in a 25-13, 25-21, 25-14 fashion.
Michigan State, the team that handed the Lady Toppers just their second loss of the season, now ranks at No. 20 in the latest AVCA poll.
Following weekend play, WKU sits at 12-2 on the season and will commence conference play this weekend with a Friday evening contest against Florida Atlantic followed by a Sunday tilt with Charlotte.
