BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After enjoying a bye week last week, head coach Jeff Brohm’s Hilltoppers have returned with high energy this week as they prepare for a regular season finale at Marshall.
The game is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff from Huntington and will air nationally on ESPNU with Bill Roth and John Gregory on the call.
“We’ve had a good week of practice. I think our guys are rejuvenated and ready to go,” Brohm said. “It’s a big game for us. Our guys understand that. Things don’t just happen. You’ve got to make them happen.”
After a 3-3 start, the Hilltoppers have reeled off five straight victories and the “growing pains” the team experienced were not totally unexpected, according to Brohm. His team leads C-USA in scoring defense and scoring offense against C-USA opponents while ranking second in total defense among league schools overall. Offensively, no one in the country scores more points against league opponents than WKU, who average 49.6 points per game in league play.
“I like the makeup of our guys. I have all along. They work hard, and they have a good attitude,” Brohm added.
For defensive coordinator Nick Holt, the improvement as the season has progressed has been a welcome sight.
“I think what I like the most is that we’re playing with some confidence and swagger,” Holt said. “Our kids are playing confident. We’re playing with aggression. We’re tackling well and finishing well. It’s happened for us here before. The young guys just have more confidence than they did earlier in the year.”
