BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU men’s golf head coach Phillip Hatchett announced Tuesday the signing of Crimson Callahan to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 season.
Callahan, a native of Chesterfield, Mo., comes to the Hilltoppers from Chaminade College Preparatory in St. Louis.
“Crimson Callahan came to us late in the recruiting process as a spot opened up unexpectedly a week before signing,” Hatchett said. “It was just like it was meant to be when I received an email from his father, Todd, saying Crimson was interested in our program. I made a phone call, and they came for a visit from St. Louis the next day. I have been around him at many junior tournaments and to be honest, had no idea he could still be available for recruitment, but I knew he could really play. He suffered a back injury that kept him out of the heart of the summers elite junior events, and that became our benefit.
“Crimson possesses so much talent and has shown he can win on the national stage as a former winner on the AJGA tour among other major events. I can’t wait until he gets here on the Hill and we begin working together to help him reach his potential. I believe he too has the talent to become an impact player for us.”
Callahan, who carries a stroke average of 74, was the top golfer for his prep program before stepping away from high school competition because of restrictions on the schedule.
He was the winner of the St. Louis Hall of Fame Jay Randolph Award in 2015 and was selected as a member of the St. Louis Team for the Mid-American Cup from 2011-16.
Callahan has been selected to take part in several development programs, including PING Jr., Bridgestone Jr., Footjoy Jr. and Loudmouth Apparel Jr.
Callahan joins in-state signees Chase Landrum and Dawson McDaniel in WKU’s signing class.
