Western Kentucky University Men’s Basketball Coach Rick Stansbury has said that five-star freshman center Mitchell Robinson is suspended.
In a statement released today, Stansbury said: “WKU freshman center Mitchell Robinson is suspended indefinitely from the program for a violation of team rules. Mitchell is a good kid, but the team will always be more important than one individual player. He needs to understand the value of structure and accountability in his life, and his return will be dependent upon requirements that will be handled internally. My focus is on our team, and I’m excited about this group as we prepare
for next week’s trip to Costa Rica.”
It has been reported by multiple news outlets that Robinson left WKU sometime Friday and had not spoken to Stansbury or anyone else at the university since.
Robinson had been on campus for two weeks and had participated in team practices. The Hilltoppers are scheduled to travel to Costa Rica in the coming weeks for games against international competition.
Former men’s basketball assistant Shammond Williams, who has been referred to by media outlets as Robinson’s godfather, resigned from the WKU staff about a week before Robinson arrived on campus.
