IRVING, Texas — WKU redshirt sophomore Billy Tom Sargent’s victory on his home turf Tuesday earned him Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week honors, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
Sargent fired a 3-under 69 for the second straight round in Tuesday’s finale in WKU’s Kenny Perry Invitational at The Club at Olde Stone, holding off Eastern Kentucky’s Will Sallee by two strokes with an 8-under, three-round total of 208 (70-69-69) – matching the best 54-hole effort of his career.
After starting his round 3 over through five holes, Sargent went 6 under the rest of the way – with four birdies and an eagle – to claim the victory.
This is the second conference weekly honor of the season for Sargent, who also received the award after notching co-medalist honors at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in WKU’s first event of the season.
Sargent is the first repeat Golfer of the Week winner this season in C-USA.
The Hilltoppers finished third as a team in the Kenny Perry Invitational with a 7-over total of 871 (284-292-295), behind champion Eastern Kentucky (860) and runner-up Jacksonville State (869).
WKU is off until its competes at South Alabama’s David Miller Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 29-30.
