BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Redshirt senior Micah Jones has been named to the CoSIDA District 2 Academic All-District Team for the third time in her career as announced by the organization Thursday morning; with the honor, Jones becomes the first three-time Academic All-District recipient in WKU’s storied history.
After missing all but two games due to a knee injury in 2015-16, Jones has returned to form this season for the Lady Toppers, averaging six points per game while dishing out 4.2 assists per game. The Greensburg, Ky., native has committed just 30 turnovers and owns an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.20, a mark that tops all players in C-USA and ranks seventh among all Division I players.
In the season opener against Alabama A&M, Jones dealt a career-best 12 assists and has had three or more assists in all but four of WKU’s 23 outings this season. The redshirt senior has had six turnover-free games and now owns 401 career assists, good for eighth place on WKU’s all-time career charts.
During her career on The Hill, Jones has also made her mark on the offensive side of the ball. She ranks sixth all-time in the WKU record book with 171 career three-pointers and currently sits as the best free-throw shooter in program history based on percentage, knocking down 230 of her 272 career attempts (84.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
Jones returns to the Academic All-District Team after also earning the honor in both 2014 and 2015; the redshirt senior was also named to the C-USA All-Academic Team following the 2014-15 season.
Joining Jones on the District 2 Academic All-District Team are Eastern Kentucky’s Alexus Cooper, Rider’s Kamila Hoskova, Maryland’s Kristen Confroy and Kentucky’s Alyssa Rice. Jones was the lone C-USA player recognized among the 40 recipients nationwide; those 40 players will now seek to be named Academic All-Americans when the three-team, 15-honoree list is released on March 2.
Jones and the Lady Toppers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Noon (CT) as WKU makes the trip to Huntington, W. Va., to square off against Marshall. WKU leads the all-time series against the Thundering Herd by a 7-1 margin, including a 73-57 win in Bowling Green on Jan. 21 earlier this season.
