FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — WKU Lady Topper Golf’s Megan Clarke earned the second
top-10 finish of her career Tuesday – and her second straight – by tying for seventh
at Jacksonville’s Amelia Island Collegiate.
The sophomore Clarke shot a 3-over 75 in the final round at the par-72, 6,029-yard
Amelia National Golf Club to finish with a 54-hole total of 223 (73-75-75).
WKU’s first event of the spring is also the first outing for Clarke since claiming
the individual title in the Lady Toppers’ last tournament of the fall, the Little
Rock Golf Classic.
WKU finished 11th as a team Tuesday with a 934 (308-307-319) tally. North Florida
won the title at 894.
“We had a tough tournament, and it’s expected to be rusty,” WKU head coach Adam Gary
said. “We have a lot to work on to prepare for the rest of the semester. Megan had a
solid week considering the tough windy conditions. We will learn from this and
continue to improve as the season progresses.”
Clarke finished just four shots out of the lead on a day when plummeting
temperatures along with wind and rain caused the scores to balloon Tuesday. Florida
Gulf Coast’s Laura Edmonds won the individual crown at 219.
Junior Mary Joiner tied for 36th with a three-round total of 233 (73-79-81), while
junior Bailey Tyree tied for 53rd at 238 (81-77-80).
Junior Abigail Smee tied for 51st at 237 (77-81-79) competing as an individual, and
freshman Lizzie Loy tied for 57th at 240 (81-76-83).
The Lady Toppers are back in action at North Florida’s UNF Collegiate on March 4-5
in Jacksonville, Fla.
