COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men’s basketball team was picked to finish tied for second in the Mid-South Conference in 2016-17, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The Blue Raiders received 36 total points and two first-place votes. Campbellsville also collected 36 votes and three first-place nods. Coaches could not vote for their own team.
Lindsey Wilson finished seventh in the MSC with a 6-10 record but reached the semifinals of the conference tournament where it fell to Cumberlands (Ky.) 56-55. The Blue Raiders return an intact starting five from last season, led by 2015-16 All-MSC Second Teamers Dmitry Utolin and Charles Sutton.
Last year’s national runner-up, Georgetown (Ky.) topped the poll with 44 points and three first-place votes. The Tigers went 13-3 in the MSC in 2015-16 and claimed both the regular season and tournament titles.
Pikeville (Ky.) finished fourth with 34 total points. Cumberlands (Ky.) followed closely behind with 33 votes.
Life (Ga.) was picked sixth with 20 points. Cumberland (Tenn.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) rounded out the poll with 14 and seven votes, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson men’s basketball begins their season on Oct. 28 on the road against Coastal Georgia.
