MOBILE, Ala. — WKU offensive tackle Forrest Lamp and wide receiver Taywan Taylor were invited to the 2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl, it was announced Monday afternoon. The 68th annual contest between the North and South squads will be played Jan. 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. CT in Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Lamp and Taylor will be the fourth and fifth Hilltoppers to earn trips to the Senior Bowl, joining tight ends Jack Doyle (2013) and Tyler Higbee (2016), as well as running back Antonio Andrews (2014). This is no surprise for either player, each having earned a plethora of honors throughout their collegiate careers.
Lamp – a Venice, Florida, native – is ProFootballFocus.com’s top-graded offensive tackle in the country this season, earning an 87.4 rating overall and a 98.9 pass-block rating. The senior is a three-time team captain and anchors the left tackle spot on WKU’s offensive line, which was ranked No. 6 in the nation by PFF.
Two times this year, Lamp has been on ProFootballFocus.com’s Team of the Week, including after his Week 2 performance against No. 1 Alabama, when he allowed only one QB pressure in 40 pass block attempts. Through Week 8, that was Lamp’s lone hurry allowed in 228 attempts, as he earned a spot on PFF’s “Dream Team.”
Taylor, meanwhile, will finish his Hilltopper career as the accomplished receiver in the program record books, as well as the most productive pass-catcher in Kentucky collegiate football history. After his record-setting 2015 season, the Louisville native was named to the Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist list. Well on his way to a career season in 2016, he was honored by the Biletnikoff Award for a second time earlier today.
Most recently, Taylor had 6 receptions for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns vs. North Texas on Senior Day, including scoring plays of 64 and 75 yards in the first five minutes of the game to put the Hilltoppers ahead 14-0 after only six offensive plays. For his efforts, he was voted Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his illustrious career.
After their bye week, Lamp and Taylor lead the Hilltoppers into Huntington, West Virginia, as WKU takes on Marshall in the team’s regular-season finale Saturday, Nov. 26. Official game time and ESPN broadcast information can be found HERE.
