DAYTON, Ohio – Lady Topper Tennis earned five singles wins at Dayton on Sunday
morning to take a 5-2 victory on the Flyers’ home court. WKU has now won three of
its last four matches.
Beginning with doubles action, WKU’s freshmen pair returned to the court at the No.
2 spot. Judit Gonzalez Agud and Zeniece Charles-Hall were defeated by a tandem of
Flyers 6-2. WKU lost the third position by default and Dayton claimed the doubles
At the time the doubles point was clinched, junior Lisa Friess and sophomore Laura
Bernardos were ahead 5-2 in their No. 1 doubles match.
Moving into singles play, Bernardos led the lineup at the No. 1 spot, winning her
match 6-3, 4-0 default. Friess defeated her opponent at the second position in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Spanish-natives Diaz Saez and Gonzalez Agud played at the No. 3 and 4, respectively.
Both Lady Toppers battled hard in three-set matches, and ultimately were victorious.
Diaz Saez won her match 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Gonzalez Agud defeated her Dayton
opponent 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Charles-Hall finished the lineup for WKU, winning her No. 5 match in straight sets
in 6-2, 6-0 fashion. The Lady Toppers lost the sixth singles spot by default.
WKU (3-11, 0-2 Conference USA) will take a week-long break before hosting its final
home match of the season on Saturday. The Lady Toppers are set to face North Alabama
beginning at 2 p.m. CT at the WKU Tennis Complex.
