HOUSTON, Texas – WKU’s season came to a close in the first round of the 2019 Air
Force Reserve Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship after third-seeded Florida
Atlantic defeated the Lady Toppers 4-0.
Beginning with doubles action, the Lady Toppers assumed their usual pairs. In the
No. 2 doubles match, junior Lucia Diaz Saez and freshman Judit Gonzalez Agud teamed
up. The WKU tandem was defeated 6-0. The Red and White lost the third doubles match
by default and the Owls gained a 1-0 advantage in the competition after earning the
In singles play, sophomore Laura Bernardos played in the leading spot for the Lady
Toppers. At the second spot was junior Lisa Friess and Diaz Saez competed at No. 3.
In the fourth hole was Gonzalez Agud while freshman Zeniece Charles-Hall played at
five. Rounding out the lineup was freshman Kyla Dilger.
Hoosier Dilger was the first to finish her match, falling to an Owl 6-0, 6-0.
Gonzalez Agud picked up three game victories, but was ultimately defeated 6-1, 6-2.
Friess fell 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles match, earning Florida Atlantic the
Spanish-native Bernardos fended off No. 87 Martina Kudelova in the leading singles
spot as the match went unfinished. Charles-Hall was ahead in the second set of her
competition as the Owls won the fourth point. Diaz Saez was in the second set when
Florida Atlantic claimed the match.
WKU finishes its season with an overall record of 3-17, recording wins against
Tennessee State, UAPB and Dayton.
