IRVING, Texas — WKU junior Katie Story has been named Conference USA Women’s Golfer of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the league office.
Story, a native of Dickson, Tenn., led the Lady Toppers to a sixth-place finish this week in a deep 18-team field at East Carolina’s Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
Story tied for 11th individually with a 224 (74-74-76) total, which was her best individual result since placing eighth last season at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate in March.
After starting the team’s first event two weeks ago with a 79 and 78, Story followed with three straight rounds of 74 or better.
This is the first conference weekly honor of Story’s career and the second for the Lady Toppers in three weeks this season. Freshman Mary Joiner won the first C-USA award this season on Sept. 14 after taking medalist honors at the Drake Creek Invitational.
WKU takes some time off from competition now before it returns to the course for the Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate, hosted by Memphis on Oct. 17-18 at Ridgeway Country Club in Germantown, Tenn.
