JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — WKU’s Mary Joiner logged her fifth top-15 performance of the
season Tuesday, tying for 12th individually at North Florida’s UNF Collegiate to
lead Lady Topper Golf.
The junior Joiner shot a 3-over 75 in Tuesday’s final round at the par-72,
5,926-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. She finished with a three-round total
of 220 (77-68-75) and tied for fourth in the field with 11 total birdies.
WKU finished seventh as a team at 896 (303-292-301), pushing up the leaderboard
Tuesday after wrapping up Monday in a tie for 11th.
“I was really proud of the way the team battled back today,” WKU head coach Adam
Gary said. “We were off to a slow start, but everyone contributed to the movement up
the leaderboard. Hopefully our hard work will continue to pay off as the semester
Host North Florida won the team title with an 871 mark. Sam Houston State’s Hanna
Alberto was the individual champion at 209.
WKU freshman Lizzie Loy tied for 37th with a 227 (75-73-79) total, while sophomore
Megan Clarke tied for 47th at 228 (74-80-74). Clarke tied for third in the field
with 40 total pars.
Junior Abigail Smee tied for 55th at 230 (77-75-78), and junior Bailey Tyree shot
her best round of the tournament Tuesday to finish at 232 (82-76-74).
The Lady Toppers will stay in Florida this week over spring break before hosting
their own Spring Break Shootout event for the third straight year on March 11-12 in
Dade City, Fla. WKU won the tournament last year by 24 strokes.
