IRVING, Texas — WKU’s Mary Joiner wrapped her first fall college season with another accolade, as the freshman was named Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week by the league office Wednesday.
Joiner, a Franklin, Ky., native, won her second individual title in five tries this season Tuesday at Mercer’s Idle Hour Collegiate Championship.
Joiner fired a 6-under 66 with eight birdies in Tuesday’s final round to win the crown by three strokes with a 213 total – a new career low for 54 holes.
Her final-round 66 was the lowest individual score by a Lady Topper in several years and bested her previous low score by three strokes.
Joiner finished her first fall season with a 74.1 stroke average.
This is the second time she’s won C-USA weekly honors. She also won the award in the first week of the season after taking the individual title at Murray State’s Drake Creek Invitational in her first college event.
WKU junior Katie Story also won C-USA Golfer of the Week on Sept. 28.
The Lady Toppers notched three top-five finishes as a team this fall, including a victory in the Drake Creek Invitational and a tie for second at the Pat Bradley Invitational.
They return to action in the spring at the UNF Intercollegiate on March 6-7.
