BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Making it two backcourt signees for his program, WKU men’s basketball head coach Rick Stansbury announced Monday the signing of four-star prospect Josh Anderson (6-4, Guard) to a national letter of intent in the 2017 recruiting class.
Anderson, out of Madison Prep Academy in Baton Rouge, La., is the highest-ranked signee for the Hilltoppers since the beginning of the modern recruiting services.
Anderson is a consensus four-star recruit across all outlets and is ranked as the No. 43 player nationally in the 2017 class by Rivals, No. 50 by Scout and No. 52 by 247Sports.
“We’re very excited to have Josh join our basketball program and family,” Stansbury said. “He’s a talented young man who brings a lot of athleticism offensively and defensively. Besides being a terrific basketball player and athlete, he’s a great young man that comes from a really good family. On top of that, he comes from one of the best high school programs in the state of Louisiana where he’s been well-coached by Jeff Jones. We’re excited to have him and his family be a part of our program.”
Anderson is a proven winner, helping Madison Prep to its third state championship in four years last season. He averaged 18.1 points. 5.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game as a junior as Madison Prep won its second straight title and appeared in its third straight state championship game.
Anderson will be the first player in Madison Prep history to start all four years at the varsity level and will make a run at the school’s all-time scoring record.
He was also a standout at the AAU level, averaging 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals last summer for the Louisiana Elite program.
“Josh is probably one of the most underrated and intriguing players in the country,” Madison Prep coach Jeff Jones said. “He’s a very versatile player with a large skillset. He can play multiple positions and guard anywhere from the 1 to the 3, and he’s a gym rat.”
Anderson joins three-star guard Taveion Hollingsworth as official members of WKU’s 2017 class.
