BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU men’s golf head coach Phillip Hatchett announced Friday the signing of Chase Landrum to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 season.
Landrum, a local product out of Glasgow High School, is a two-time winner of Kentucky’s Mr. Golf award in 2016 and 2014.
“We are very happy to have Chase Landrum joining our team next year,” Hatchett said. “For the last three years, his name has been at the top of Kentucky Junior golf. I have known him since he was 8 years old and had the opportunity to work with him on his game until he entered high school. He is one of the best competitors I have ever seen with no limit to how low he can take it. Evidence is the 58 he shot on his home course, Glasgow Country Club, this summer.
“That is rare air indeed to be able to take it that low. He is going to be a force in college – and, I believe, professional golf – and I feel blessed he chose WKU to play his college golf.”
Landrum won 18 total invitationals during his time with the Scotties and was region champion three times. He qualified for the KHSAA state tournament on six occasions, finishing fifth as a senior and a career-best third as a sophomore.
Landrum was also named all-state all four years of high school and won the All A State Tournament in 2015.
He wrapped up his senior season with eight top-10 finishes in invitational tournaments, three wins and three runner-up finishes.
Landrum won the Irvin Cobb 2016 Junior and Amateur events, becoming the first player in 80 years to win both. He also qualified for the US Open sectionals in 2015 and won three Hurricane Tour events in his prep career.
