BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Senior left tackle Forrest Lamp was named to the 2016 Associated Press All-American Third Team, it was announced Monday. It is the second time in WKU history that a Hilltopper has earned AP honors, the first being Bobby Rainey, who was also on the Third Team in 2011.
This comes three days after Lamp became the first Hilltopper to earn Second Team USA Today All-American honors. In addition, the senior was named First Team All-Conference USA, Second Team PFF All-American and PFF All-Group of Five Team over the past week.
This season, Lamp has given up only three quarterback pressures over the course of his 11 starts, and has not allowed a sack in 25 games over the past two years. For the second-consecutive season, the analytic website www.ProFootballFocus.com rated Lamp as the top offensive tackle among Group of Five programs.
Lamp’s most notable performance came in Week 2 at No. 1 Alabama, where he allowed only one quarterback pressure in 40 pass block situations against the top defense in the country. For his efforts in Tuscaloosa, he was named to the PFF Team of the Week. He earned a spot on the PFF Team of the Week for a second time following WKU’s Week 6 contest at Louisiana Tech.
As a unit, the Hilltopper offensive line was rated No. 4 in the country by PFF. WKU has not allowed a sack in the past four games, and the 16 allowed all season is tied for 22nd in the nation. The Hilltoppers rank second in the country in scoring offense (45.1 points per game), while sitting at the top of the charts with 7.64 yards per play.
In eight days, Lamp and WKU (10-3) will play in the 2016 Boca Raton Bowl against Memphis (8-4) of the American Athletic Conference. First kick will be at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Dec. 20, with the game being broadcast on ESPN.
