IRVING, Texas — For the second time this year, junior Nacarius Fant returned a punt for a touchdown this past Saturday vs. HBU. And for the second time this season, he was rewarded with Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday.
The Bowling Green native took one 50 yards to the house in the third quarter to become the first FBS player to have multiple punt return touchdowns this season. It’s the first time WKU has had multiple punt return scores in a season in the FBS Era (since 2009), while Fant became only the seventh player in Hilltopper history to have multiple punt return touchdowns in a season.
He finished the contest with career highs of three punt returns for 68 yards, and in typical Fant fashion, he also added three catches for 48 receiving yards and one carry for 20 rushing yards.
It’s the second such award for Fant this season, previously winning following a 48-yard punt return score at Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 17 in Oxford. Fant gives WKU its third weekly C-USA award in 2016 – tied for most of any team.
Fant and the Hilltoppers (3-2, 1-0) have C-USA foe Louisiana Tech (2-3, 1-1) on the schedule Thursday night in Ruston. First kick will be at 7 p.m. CT, with the game being broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
