BOWLING GREEN — In a game of runs, Warren Central’s final one eliminated Greenwood from the post-season.
Down 12 with 4:10 left in the third quarter, the Dragons put together a 23-3 run for the remainder of the game. The game-winning rally began with a shot by Tegra Muleka with 3:22 left in the third.
DAndre Boyd and Kobe Brents each added baskets before the end of the third period and Warren Central trailed Greenwood, 36-28, after three.
The Dragons outscored the Gators 17-1 in the final period to win 45-37 and to secure a showdown with Bowling Green tonight (Thursday) at 6 p.m. in the Boys’ 14th District Tournament title game at Warren East High School. The Purples have won five consecutive district titles and these two teams have met in the title game in five of the last six seasons.
Brents led Warren Central with 19 points, while Boyd added 18 and 11 rebounds, Tayshaun Bibb added six points and Muleka had the one basket.
Jack Roberts led Greenwood with 13 points, while Ben Carroll added nine points, Parker Williams added seven, Noah Stansbury posted six and Cade Stinnett finished with two.
Greenwood built its 12-point lead behind a stifling defense in the second quarter. The Gators outscored the Dragons 10-1 in the period, then added an 11-4 run in the third quarter to seemingly take control of the contest with a 34-22 lead.
Warren Central, though, finished that quarter with a 6-2 run to turn the tide.
The rally turned into a win. Along with reaching the district championship, the Dragons qualified for the Fourth Region Tournament that begins Sunday at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. The tournament draw is Saturday morning at Warren East.

Bowling Green led from start to finish in the early game Wednesday night. The Lady Purples opened the game against the host Lady Raiders on a 15-0 run and led 18-4 at the end of the first period.
They pushed their lead to 45-10 by halftime before cruising to a 27-point victory. The win purples the Lady Purples to the Girls’ 14th District title game Friday at 6 p.m. at Warren East against South Warren. They will also play in the Fourth Region Tournament next week at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. The draw for that tournament is Saturday.
Keyozdon Jones led Bowling Green with 16 points, Taylor Ragland added 13 and Meadow Tisdale posted 11. Also for the Lady Purples, T’Alla Brown scored seven, Saniyah Shelton, six, Sasha Martin, Nastacia Patterson, and LynKaylah James, four each, Kiyah Gray, three, and Aiayna Gurley finished with two points.
Kelsey Sparks led the Lady Raiders with 14 points and Tanaya Bailey added 12. Also for East, Lucy Patterson scored 10 points, Olivia Price had five, Connor Mann and Caroline Forrester each had two and Katelyn Joiner finished with one.
