The Boys’ Fourth Region Tournament tips tonight at E.A. Diddle Arena with a rematch of the 2016 tournament finalists.
Bowling Green (29-2), one of the top-rated squads in the state and winner of the 14th District, opens defense of its regional title at 6 p.m. against Barren County (17-15). The Purples beat the Trojans 49-46 in last year’s tournament title game.
Barren graduated all but two of its players who saw significant playing time last season. Bowling Green, meanwhile, returns six players who saw action in that game. The Purples beat the Trojans, 70-44, in a meeting this season on Jan. 3.
In the second first-round game tonight, Franklin-Simpson (25-6), winner of the 13th District, plays 16th District runner-up Russell County (7-24) at 8 p.m.
The boys’ tournament continues Wednesday at 6 p.m. with 15th District winner Monroe County (17-12) against 13th District runner-up Russellville (20-11).
The second game is 16th District winner Clinton County (22-9) against 14th District runner-up Greenwood (19-13) at 8 p.m.
The boys’ semifinal games will be 6 and 8 p.m. Monday, March 6, and the championship will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7.
