DALLAS, Texas — After finishing tied for third at the ECU Intercollegiate, WKU
Hilltopper Golf’s Billy Tom Sargent has earned his fifth career Conference USA
Golfer of the Week award, the league announced Wednesday.
This is the second such award of the season for Sargent, who also took the honor
after winning the Pinetree Intercollegiate in the fall.
Sargent’s result at the East Carolina event was his fourth top-20 performance of the
season and his second in the top three.
He tallied 10 birdies across the tournament, helping the Hilltoppers tie for the
event lead with 39 total birdies.
Sargent led the field after the first round following a 3-under 69.
His efforts helped WKU tie for third as a team. The two teams ahead of the
Hilltoppers were both top-100 programs – the host East Carolina and No. 42 Campbell.
The Tops also finished ahead of No. 46 Charleston and No. 99 James Madison.
The Hilltoppers have nearly a month off from tournament competition before returning
to action at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship on April 4-6 in Nashville,
