WKU Tennis hosts Evansville in first home match

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Following 13 road and neutral site matches, WKU Tennis will host its first home battle of the year this Friday at noon against Evansville at the WKU Tennis Complex.

Entering the match, the Lady Toppers own a 9-4 record and are tied for second in the Conference USA standings with Rice (9-4). WKU boasts two players who at least have a seven-match winning streak and is the only team in C-USA with the feat.

Evansville (10-10) is coming off two wins last Saturday as they took down Wright State 4-1 and IUPUI 6-1. The Purple Aces own the all-time series against the Lady Toppers 10-8, but WKU got the best of UE in the most recent matchup, 7-0, in Evansville, Ind., on March 25, 2016.

WKU senior Elpida Malamou continues her success in singles ranking third in the conference in wins, posting a 12-0 record. The Greece native, counting back from last season, has won 25-straight singles matches.

Junior Violetta Shatalova has a winning streak of her own, winning seven consecutive matches dating back to Feb. 4.

Freshmen Natalia De Ugarte and Monica Malinen are tied for second on the team in wins, as the two have racked up eight victories apiece.
