Taylor Proctor, Kelsey McGuffin earn C-USA Softball All-Tournament team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After WKU Softball became the first No. 8 seed to remain
standing as one of four teams left in the Conference USA Tournament, the Hilltoppers
saw senior Taylor Proctor and sophomore Kelsey McGuffin named to the All-Tournament
Team for their outstanding play. Proctor claimed the lone catcher spot on the list
while McGuffin collected one of three outfield positions.

The pair of Hilltoppers went a combined 13-for-30 on the tournament at the plate.
Even more impressively, the duo posted an 8-for-11 combined game in the box in WKU’s
opening contest with fifth-seeded UAB. McGuffin registered a career-high four hits
in the outing including a double to go along with a walk and a hit by pitch. In the
same game, Proctor opened the tilt by collecting a hit in her first four at bats
before settling for a 4-for-5 day at the plate including a sacrifice hit, a hit by
pitch and the first stolen base of her career.

Following the marathon 12-inning upset of UAB, WKU had a one-game break before going
10 more innings against No. 4 seed Florida Atlantic. McGuffin and Proctor again
played crucial roles for the Red and White combining for a 3-for-6 outing along with
a hit by pitch, walk and sacrifice hit. In the top of the ninth, McGuffin lined a
one-out single to centerfield to break the tie before scoring the eventual winning
run all the way from first base on a Brittany Vaughn double.

McGuffin finished the tournament hitting .444 with Proctor not far behind at .417.
Both players competed in all 38 innings of action over the three days of play.
Neither Hilltopper had received All-Conference recognition following the regular
season, which was released a day prior to the tournament’s start.

In the field, both Hilltoppers recorded perfect fielding percentages. Proctor added
her 17th runner caught stealing of the season as she gunned down a Marshall running
attempting to take third base.

McGuffin and Proctor join Miranda Kramer, Kathryn Downing and Carleigh Chaumont as
Hilltoppers to earn C-USA All-Tournament Team honors.
