Morgan McIntyre, Ventavius Sears sweep their events at C-USA Championships

EL PASO, Texas — Morgan McIntyre and Ventavius Sears swept their respected events in
the pole vault and long jump in 2017, winning titles in both the Indoor and Outdoor
Conference USA Championships, headlining the Hilltoppers’ third day at Kidd Field.

Sears and Desmond Mobley tallied a combined 22 points for the Hilltoppers as the
pair competed in the long jump, while Mobley also participated in the high jump.
Sears took home the long jump title with a 7.71m (25’3.5”) mark for 10 points and
Mobley placed third in both events, racking up six points apiece for a team-high of
12 points on the day.

McIntyre turned in her second-best mark of the season (3.96m, 12’11.75”) in the pole
vault event, marking her third first-place finish this spring, to give the Lady
Toppers 10 team points.

In the throwing events, Jenessa Jackson threw a 46.64m (153’0”) mark in the discus
to finish sixth, tallying three points for WKU. Julien Lewis, who recently joined
the track and field squad and plays football on The Hill, posted a 14th place finish
with a throw of 13.00m (42’8”) in the shot put.

On the track, several WKU athletes qualified for the finals in their respective
events and will be competing on the final day of the championships Sunday. WKU
turned in quite a showing in the 100- and 200-meter dash as eight student-athletes
qualified for Sunday’s finals.

On the men’s side in the 100-meter, Julius Morris ran the top qualifying time with a
10.28, while Eli Minor took fourth (10.43) and Will Bush placed sixth (10.58). Three
Lady Toppers qualified as well as Jadzia Beasley posted an 11.76, good for fifth,
and both Khadijah Valentine and Peli Alzola ran the exact same time (11.74) to
finish tied for eighth.

In the 200-meter, Morris was once again the first to cross the finish line, this
time in 20.48 seconds. Three other Hilltoppers placed in the top-eight in Sears
(20.61), Dasor (20.89) and Minor (20.96). On the women’s side, Valentine finished
third (23.29) and Beasley claimed seventh place (23.94).

More preliminary events took place in the 400-meter dash and 110m and 400m hurdles.
Sears clocked a 46.83 to earn second place and Dasor ran the race in 47.11 seconds
to finish fourth. Jonathan Hayden placed second in both hurdles events – (14.03) in
the 110m and (53.13) in the 400m – and Maor Seged finished eighth in the 400m
hurdles (53.76).

After three days of the four-day event, the Lady Toppers have totaled 22 points and
currently sit in fifth place, while the men’s team is in sixth place with a total of
28 points.

The final day of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships will resume Sunday at 2
p.m. CT with the men’s discus event at UTEP’s Kidd Field.
